Happiness. It’s an odd thing. Is there more than just a moment in time when we are truly happy? And what does true happiness actually mean?
I’ve been told many a time to be happy. And today I heard “choose to be happy.” This got me thinking, are you telling me that this whole time I’ve been choosing to be unhappy?
Surely happiness is really contentment. If we are content with what we have from life, then we are happy?
But us humans are never really truly seen to be happy. We achieve something and we are happy. We do not achieve something, and we are unhappy. But every time we do achieve happiness, we change our goalpost and want more.
In this world we are living in, where there is a constant need for personal growth and development, achievements and fulfilments, can we really be happy?
When do we decide to stop and say actually that’s it, I’m happy. I’m content with what I have got and achieved. I require nothing more. Surely, that is the true state of happiness. Of contentment. Which is not a choice, but more an acceptance of being completely fufilled with what we have.
